Acupuncture CE Requirements
List of Seminars Approved for Acupuncture Certificate Renewal
Each licensee who possesses an acupuncture certificate must renew his or her certificate by April 1 of each even numbered year. The renewal fee is $100 and is non-refundable. Proof of earning 12 hours of acupuncture CE is required to renew a certificate. CE must be earned within the renewal biennium and may not be carried over from one renewal period to the next. You are required to maintain proof of CE attendance for three years from the conclusion of each program. Licensees applying for their first initial renewal are exempt from earning CE for their first initial renewal only.
Acupuncture CE must be earned as follows:
If you reside AND practice in Ohio, you must earn at least 6 hours of acupuncture CE within the state of Ohio. The remaining 6 hours of CE may be earned within the state of Ohio, outside of Ohio, or via *supervised self instruction.All programs held in Ohio for acupuncture CE credit must be registered with the Board and posted on our List of Seminars Approved for Acupuncture Certificate Renewal. If a program is not registered on this list it will not be accepted for certificate renewal.
If you reside AND practice outside of Ohio, you may earn all required 12 hours of CE credit within the state of Ohio, outside of Ohio, or via *supervised self instruction.
CE earned outside Ohio or via *supervised self instruction must be sponsored by a Board-approved chiropractic educational institution, non-profit association, accredited academic health institution, or hospital and comply with the requirements outlined in Board Rule 4734-7-03.
No list of out of state CE or CE offered *via supervised self instruction is maintained by the Board. As long as the program is sponsored by a Board-approved chiropractic educational institution, non-profit association, accredited academic health institution, or hospital AND enhances acupuncture competency, it will be accepted for certificate renewal.
*Supervised self instruction is defined as audio/video or internet programs that offer participant feedback and interaction with instructors and a mechanism for assessing participant mastery of the subject matter of the program.
Special circumstances
A waiver, extension, or reduction of CE hours may be granted due to illness, disability, or other good cause shown if it affected a reasonable opportunity and precluded you from participating in CE activities. A request for a waiver, extension, or reduction of CE hours must be made to the Board in writing no less than sixty days prior to the expiration of your license.
CE Audit
The Board will select renewal applications for audit to verify that CE was earned.
If your application is selected for audit, you must submit documentation of the CE you attested to on your renewal application within thirty days from the date of notification.
FALSIFYING CE RECORDS OR FAILURE TO MAINTAIN CE RECORDS COULD RESULT IN DISCIPLINE AND/OR A FINE UP TO $2,500.
